Masterclass with Richard Marshall
In November 2008 the B Band invited international cornet and trumpet virtuoso Richard Marshall to lead one of their rehearsals.
Richard talked about his playing career and came across as a highly inspirational figure to both younger and older Band members.
He gave the Band valuable advice and tips, and everyone enjoyed the session immensely.
The Band would like to thank Richard for finding time in his busy schedule, and we hope to work with him again in the near future.

New Bandroom

Currently Old Silkstone band also practice just after the 'B' Band so on a Monday it produces a knock on effect meaning the 'B' Band and the Training Band are pushed for time. The Training band and the 'B' Band have decided to change from the band hut to the sports centre behind the Co-op. We hope this will allow us to get a slightly longer practice on a Monday and possibly start a second practice on another night, so from the 7th of April we are practicing there (see location page for more details)

Silkstone March Contest 2007
On the 14th July 2007, Old Silkstone 'B' Band took part in the Silkstone March & Hymn contest. Because the band is the local band for Silkstone, as the senior band run the contest, we always play last. As usual though, a lot of the audience stuck around to watch the youngsters play. This year, out of 17 bands, the band came away with 14th overall, 15th at the Red Lion pub and 13th at the Silkstone Lodge. There were some very good bands there competing and we, as a band, managed to beat some of the good bands. Well done guys!!!

Morley March Contest 2007
On the 8th July 2007, Old Silkstone ‘B’ Band took part in a brand new march contest taking place at Morley, near Leeds. The band played extremely well, and managing to come away with the Best 4th Section prize. The band is currently not registered in the sections, and so this is an even bigger reward for the bands hard work. The conductor, Wayne Bostwick, was very pleased with how the band played and was even more pleased with the result we were given. Well done guys and girls, keep up the hard work!!!

Silkstone Vicars Garden Party 2007
The band recently played at the local garden party. Due to the weather the concert was played inside the church which allowed the band's sound to be shown off in the amazing acoustics that were on offer.

Christmas Pub Run!
During the Christmas period the band went and played carols in many of the local pubs and restaurants. Many of our local supporters were overjoyed to hear the band play their favourite carols and gave generously to the band. Overall, we had a very enjoyable Christmas and made lots of money for the band!!!
